This not only protected the carpeting in my home, but it also protected him from hurting himself through any mischievous activities. I kept his crate in a central part of the home, so he would not feel alone or left out, and he could see where I was most of the time. At night, I kept him in his dog crate, and whenever he needed to go potty he would definitely let me know. During the first month, I had to get up and take him out about 2-3 times every night.
