Believe me, I have been there too so I fully appreciate your annoyance with this particular behavior. As a result of my own pup's continual barking, I decided to explore the reason why most dogs bark and try to get fast and highly effective techniques to put a stop to this aggravating behavior before I was charged with disturbing the peace!!

timing couldn't have been better! I'm not a dog trainer but I thought I knew a lot about canines before however his in-depth e-book made me realize just how much more I still needed to learn.

And so today we'll be looking at the reasons why pet dogs bark and just what you can do to stop this behavior in your own pet.
Quite a few pet owners seem to want their pets to quit barking, period: a good dog is a quiet dog, and the only time that barking is permitted is when there is a man sporting a black balaclava and stripy prison attire, clutching a backpack marked 'Swag', clambering in via your bedroom window.
Puppies don't see barking in quite the same light. Your puppy has got a voice, exactly like you do, and she uses it just how you do too: to convey something to the people she loves. I don't feel that barking is always an undesirable thing - actually, I feel it's great that my puppy would like to "speak" to me, enough so that I can ignore the loudness of her voice (which, in enclosed rooms, is absolutely overpowering) in favor of her wish to communicate with me.
It's the thought that counts (though I am much more inclined to feel this way once my ears are sheltered safely behind industrial-quality ear-plugs). Sadly, the language barrier between pet dogs and humans is pretty well impermeable, which means it really is up to us to use the context, the body language of our dogs, along with the circumstances to understand the reason why our pet is driving us nuts barking.
So why is it that dogs bark? It is not easy to say (it's just like trying to answer the question, "So why do human beings talk?" in so many words). Let's start out by stating that pet dogs bark for a lot of different reasons. A good deal of it is determined by the breed: some dogs were bred to start barking just when a risk is apparent (this holds true of guarding breeds in particular, such as Rottweilers, Dobermans, and German Shepherds).
Some were bred to use their voices as an effective tool of sorts, for helping their owners in search of a common goal (sporting dog breeds like Beagles and Bloodhounds, trained to 'bay' after they scent the quarry), plus some puppies just like to hear themselves talk (take almost any of the toy dog breeds as a good example of an exceptionally chatty pooch!). Having said that, all breed details cast aside, there are a few situations where almost any canine will bark:
* She is bored to tears
* She's lonesome
* She's hungry, or is aware it is time for a meal
* Something is not right / a person is near to the house
* She's inviting you to play
* She meets another animal
* She requires the toilet
If your pet is barking for any of these reasons, it's not very practical that you should try and stop her: after all, she's a dog, and it is the nature of all dogs to bark at certain times and in certain conditions.
Presumably you understood this when you adopted your companion (plus, if complete silence had been on top of your set of priorities, you would have obtained a pet rock, correct?). Of course, there are occasions when barking is not just unwarranted, it is totally undesirable. Many dogs are able to use their voices as a good means of manipulation.
