Three Common Dog Training Mistakes To Avoid

There are many different approaches to dog training and many different ways of implementing each of those approaches. Most techniques utilized today however, are premised upon the idea that positive reinforcement is likely to create the best results. Virtually every truly functional dog training system is outgrowth of positive reinforcement thinking.

Regardless of which specific program a dog owner may choose to adopt, there are common pitfalls that can be avoided. Dog owners are particularly susceptible to making three critical errors, which if avoided will make the training process far more enjoyable and effective. Three of the most common mistakes are inconsistency, impatience and treating the dog as a subject instead of a training partner.

Inconsistency

Consistency may be hobgoblin of little minds in terms of the need for human creativity. With respect to dog training, however, inconsistency is the quickest way to reduce the experience's effectiveness.

Dogs thrive on predictability. In fact, their ability to grasp cause and effect is at the very root of training. Operant conditioning is predicated on the fact that dogs will begin to associate events with consistent outcomes. This notion of consistency's importance must be extended to the overall process of dog training.

A dog is likely to best respond to a system in which regular actions produce regular results. Too often, dog owners fail to be entirely consistent. In the dog's mind, these lapses in regularity convey a sense of randomness to the process and make it difficult for the pet to associate his specific behaviors with specific results-the key to training. Dogs will excel when they are taught that things happen for specific reasons. When surprises occur it undermines the whole of the training process.

A successful trainer will retain consistency and will not deviate from an established course.

Impatience

There can be a great deal of frustration in dog training. Concepts we believe dogs should be able to grasp easily often escape them completely for quite some time.

We live in a world that is so often focused on immediate results. We learn to expect that our actions will be met by prompt, anticipated responses. Dog training runs counter to this societal trend toward speedy, immediate gratification. Training is an extended process that can require a great deal of patience from the trainer.

Impatience results in unpredictability on the part of the owner as they hastily cease a training session or abandon positive reinforcement techniques in hopes of finding a shortcut to desired results. Patience is, indeed, a virtue when one considers the role of the owner in a dog training situation.

A successful trainer will master developing a patient outlook throughout the extended process of dog training.

Treating the dog as a subject instead of a partner

Dog training requires two participants: the dog and the owner. Frequently, however, owners tend to perceive the process as being uniquely about them. They fret over their techniques, equipment and strategies without giving real consideration to their training partner, the dog.

When an owner approaches the dog as a simple subject for experimentation, they lose track of what makes the dog unique and denigrate the always-important dog/owner relationship. Training becomes a chore, rather than a joint activity. What might have been a pleasurable chance for interaction becomes an unenjoyable task.

Dogs are sufficiently intuitive to be attuned to a trainer's attitude and are less receptive to learning when they are treated merely as a subject instead of as a complete being. Owners who fail to see their pet's identity during training are unable to pick up on subtle clues and possible means to improve their techniques.

The successful trainer will treat his dog as a full partner in training, not merely as a subject.

By avoiding these three common pitfalls, a dog owner is more likely to be able to implement a training strategy that produces results. Additionally, the training experience is likely to be enjoyable for both the dog and owner, giving them a tremendous opportunity to build their relationship. Regardless of the exact methodology adopted by the owner, the training process will benefit extraordinarily from avoiding the mistakes of inconsistency, impatience and treating your pet as a subject instead of as a partner.

Tips For Different Bullmastiff Puppy Training Techniques

There are so many different puppy training techniques out there; it can be a little difficult trying to figure out the best ones to use. There are also many different types of methods for different types of dogs.

The Bullmastiff puppy is a special breed of puppy and takes a little more concentrated training. They are rather stubborn. But once they become aware that you are not going to let them rule they become very willing to learn. So take a look at our guidelines below. If you stay with them and be persistent and consistent in training them you will be able to easily train your Bullmastiff puppy.

The Trust Factor

Unless your puppy trusts you, the training techniques you choose will be hard to utilize. Your puppy must trust you and the best way to build this trust is through love and care. If your Bullmastiff puppy is fearful, feels neglected or nervous all the time, his or her lack of confidence will make it much more difficult as you proceed with their training. They need to feel good about you and themselves. This makes it easier for you to achieve your training goals.

Clarifying your purpose for training is also an important factor when training your Bullmastiff puppy. If you're looking to provide basic obedience training the options will be different from someone trying to use puppy training techniques for tricks. Then again, it is possible that you want more extensive training (e.g. rescue training or hunting). Whatever the case may be you have to decide this before you begin your training procedure. Once you have made your decision you will be able to create and set goals for your puppy

.

The Motivational System

Designing a motivation system can be fun, especially for your dog. If you use rewards to keep them motivated then they will want to repeat that good behavior over and over again. Those who prefer punishment to prevent undesirable behavior can also achieve the same goal. When you look at both areas you will find pros and cons for each one. These should always be considered before using them to boost the motivation of your Bullmastiff puppy.

Keep in mind; many puppy owners decide to combine the two and use this approach. Our recommendation is using rewards 90% of the time and punishments around 10% of the time. Over the years it has been effective in most cases.

Do Research Before Deciding

A Bullmastiff puppy has his or her own puppy training techniques. Actually this goes for any type of breed, and what type of developmental stage they are in right now. There are several options at your disposal like; lure training, play training, target wand training, the Koehler method, clicker training, and even after-the-fact discipline. These happen to be some of the major options, but there are plenty more out there.

Building knowledge around all of them is a good idea, but don't stick to just one. A Bullmastiff puppy will do well in a mixed training or eclectic approach, but you will figure out what works best for each particular situation.

Training A Guard Dog On Your Own Important Steps To Be Followed

Training a guard dog involves various techniques, along with some vital information about the dog's behavior. The training, when given at a earlier stage, proves to be more effective and ideal. This is because of the fact that the dog's training might get hampered due to other skills that the dog might have learned earlier. For example, if the dog was never taught to jump up on people, he might be hesitant in doing so while being trained. As mentioned earlier, training a guard dog is best left to professional dog trainers, as these people are aware of the techniques of teaching companion dogs to function as guard dogs. However, dog owners can train their dogs to expertise skills such as obedience, hunting and other kinds of dogs' sports. Here are some tips that you may find helpful on how to train a guard dog, apart from getting it trained in a training facility.

Train a Guard Dog At Home

Basic dog obedience is the first phase in training a guard dog. Unlike a companion dog, a guard dog is expected to obey each and every command of his master, and that too with immediate effect. Using hand signals, teach the dog verbal commands such as come, sit, down, stay and heel. Ensure that the dog responds to all these commands appropriately. In training these basic obediences, a guard dog should also be made aware of not to accept commands from anyone other than the owner or handler. This is a critical factor in training a guard dog as the motive becomes ineffective if an intruder is able to control the dog by using the same verbal commands. Basically, the dog has to identify between the commands given by his owner and any stranger. A guard dog must also be taught to refrain from accepting any treats from strangers, as this may be potentially dangerous.

Barking at strangers or intruders is the next crucial step in training a guard dog. Teach your dog to bark when someone approaches the house and give commands to stop, indicating that the person is a friend. On the other hand, when a stranger approaches, allow the dog to continue barking until you ask him to stop. A form of this technique can be carried out by training the dog to go to a family member when something unusual happens. This can be done by letting the dog bark and calling it to be rewarded with a treat or chew toy. The idea behind this is to develop a reflex so that, at the sight of an unusual event, the dog barks and alerts the family members.

Teaching the dog to remain indifferent to other animals is also an important step to be taught during the dog training process. This would include being unaggressive towards cats or other dogs and not to pursue a female dog in heat. The dog should also be made familiar to the boundaries of the owner's property. This is done so as to prevent the dog from going beyond the property line, in case of events such as, chasing an intruder or a burglar.

A guard dog is also trained to lay an attack on an intruder, as an immediate action to the owner's command or when the dog perceives a potential threat. This fact is the reason of not leaving a guard dog with visitors. It is obvious that visitors may take the animal as a normal pet and the dog might harm them by misinterpreting their actions or gestures as threatening. Training a guard dog to protect the owner, also includes methods which teach the dog to be insensitive to loud noises or overpowering gestures. This is done to prevent situations, where the intruder may use loud noises or gestures to stop the dog from attacking.

A guard dog should not only be familiar with the trainer, but also to other members of the family, including other pets. That's why, it is necessary that the adults and kids in the family should interact with their dog, giving him regular attention and care. This helps the dog to know the members well, and not perceive them as any kind of threat. If there are other pets in the family, then train the dog to socialize with them, so that the dog understands that they are also a part of the family.

An important thing to be kept in mind in 'how to train a guard dog' is that, this dog is no different than a normal pet dog. A guard dog also requires the same kind of attention and love from the family members. Owning and training a guard dog is more than just a responsibility. This is because, you have an extra commitment not only to make the dog vigilant and protective, but also a loving member of the family!

My Dog Ignores Me - Tips On How To Get Your Dogs Attention

It is very frustrating when your dog ignores you, but is he really ignoring you, or does he not realize you are even speaking to him.

Dogs are interesting beasts. They crave your attention and companionship. Why do you suppose there are times when your dog just completely ignores you?

One of the things you have to learn is that you need to give your dog a reason to follow your command. If your pet has become accustomed to getting in trouble when his name is called, he is less likely to respond to you. The worst thing you can do is to call your dog, only to punish him. Would you turn to acknowledge someone calling your name if you knew it was not going to be a pleasant encounter? I wouldnt.

Dogs, for the most part, are happy-go-lucky. They are always ready to play and get their feelings hurt very easily when there is a negative confrontation. You have the capability of humiliating or embarrassing your dog just by your actions. You do not want to do that. Believe me when I tell you, your dog is very sensitive to how you treat him. He wants your approval more than anything else.

If he is used to you reprimanding or punishing him when you call him, why shouldn't he ignore you. He may be thinking you will just go away if he pretends not to hear you.

You want your dog to respect you for being fair and kind. Their feelings are not much different from our own. There is a difference between a command and a threat. "Come Shadow, good boy", this is good. "Shadow, if you don't get over here, you are going to get it", not good. Dogs respond to the tone of your voice. Do not confuse him by giving a command in an angry voice. You can be sure he will be ignoring you in no time.

Your dog does not purposely disobey you. There is a better chance that he just does not understand what you want him to do. You need to give him a clear command so he does understand.

There are a few things you can do to get your dog to acknowledge you...

1. Does your dog know his name? Make sure you use his name a lot during training sessions while showing affection at the same time. If he does not know his name, that is your first problem. The idea is that you want him to pay attention to you when you speak to him or give him a command. He will begin to recognize his name and associate it with something pleasant.

2. Does your dog know you are talking to him? I know that sounds silly, but depending on your tone of voice, he may not be intentionally ignoring you at all. He may think you are talking to someone else.

3. Does your dog like to wander around and investigate the premises? When your pet does this, he is just in his own little world. It is as if we, as people, have something on our mind. We will just tune out our surroundings. So if we do it, why can't they? Get his attention by petting him and saying his name. Once you have gotten his attention, then give him a command.

4. Do not be afraid to make eye contact with your dog. It is hard for him to ignore you if you are looking him right in the eyes. This also helps to establish you as the alpha of his pack.

5. Once your dog realizes that what you want him to do is not going to be unpleasant, he will begin to acknowledge you. Always keep in mind that your tone of voice can put a different feel to any command. Always keep your voice pleasant, but not passive.

6. Do not try to get his attention if you are going to do something unpleasant. If you are going to bathe him or clip his nails, for instance, you need to go get him. This will help to keep real commands positive so he will listen to you.

7. Your body language is very important when training your dog to listen to you. Just like people, dogs will associate your body language with your mood. If, for instance, your arms are crossed and you are standing tall, your dog could associate this with you being angry. Stay relaxed and your dog will be relaxed and respond better.

8. If you are training your dog to come to you with treats, let him come all the way to you. Do not reach out and offer him the treat. Hold the treat next to your leg and make him come all the way to you.

9. You need to establish yourself as the alpha dog, but not by seeming threatening to your dog. Always speak to your dog in a pleasant voice. Once your dog understands what you want, he is less likely to ignore you.

How to Potty Train Your New Puppy

When my German Shepherd Dog Sasha came to live with me at the tender age of 10 weeks, I wanted us to get off to a good start. I knew, from all of the books I had read, how important it was to begin potty training a new puppy as soon as you bring them into your home. You want to give them very clear and consistent guidance that they can easily understand. So, I was prepared. I had already purchased a wire dog crate with a divider panel, designed especially for the purpose of potty training a puppy.

This type of dog crate is one of the most valuable tools a new puppy own can have, as they allow you to reduce the amount space that your little fur ball has to move around in. This is crucial for the potty training process because the less space a puppy has around them, the less likely they are to relieve themselves in their crate. If you give your puppy a lot of free space, they are liable to go potty in a far corner away from themselves. But, if you make it impossible for them to go potty without soiling themselves, they are far less likely to have an accident in their crate.

So, with Sasha, I had bought a dog crate of the size that would accommodate him when he was full grown, and I simply used the divider panel to keep his available space small while I was potty training him. Whenever I could not watch him, I would put him in his crate. I taught him to enter his crate willingly by offering him a food treat as an incentive. I would toss a piece of chicken or some other delectable into his crate, while simultaneously asking him to go to your crate. It did not take him long to figure out that good things happen when he goes into his crate! Pretty soon he started running into his crate before I even had his treat ready for him.

A puppys bladder is very tiny, and their ability to hold urine is very limited. Sasha needed to relieve himself about every 45 minutes for the first few weeks, which is not much different than a human baby. I would have him out of his crate, playing with him on the living room floor, and all of a sudden he would just stop and look around -- that was my cue -- he had to go! And he had to go NOW!

As soon as I noticed this behavior, I would give him the verbal command OUTSIDE, and whisk him outside to go potty. Whenever I caught him actually starting to go potty inside the house, I would say, NO! OUTSIDE! then interrupt him in the process and get him outside as fast as possible. When he was little, I had to actually pick him up and take him straight outside. If I tried to run him out, he usually did not make it and would pee before we got to the door. Once he finished doing his business, I would praise him verbally, telling him what a good boy he was, and give him a food treat.

Sashas ability to hold his bladder gradually increased, but if I was unable to keep a close eye on him, I always had him in his crate. This not only protected the carpeting in my home, but it also protected him from hurting himself through any mischievous activities. I kept his crate in a central part of the home, so he would not feel alone or left out, and he could see where I was most of the time. Having a wire dog crate with a divider panel to help with this potty training process made all the difference in the world.

At night, I kept him in his dog crate, and whenever he needed to go potty he would definitely let me know. During the first month, I had to get up and take him out about 2-3 times every night. But after that, his bladder got stronger and he usually only needed to go out once each night. I am the kind of person who enjoys having my dog sleep with me, so it wasnt long before Sasha was sharing my bed.

He quickly figured out that the best way to wake me up when he needed to go potty was to lick my face! He never once relieved himself in the bed, so his dog crate did not get used all that much at night after that point. However, it was still an indispensable aid for keeping both Sasha and my home safe during the day when I could not keep and eagle eyes watch upon him.

Essential Dog Training Online Resources

Dog Training Online can be form or medium for a dog trainer and dog owners/ handlers. Dog Training Online can use the internet to gain advice, reviews, information, methods and techniques. Some information available is the obedience actions of Down, Leaving and recall.

Down

Word of command: "Down". The object of this exercise is to teach the dog to assume a position with all 4 legs touching the ground; it is the essence for control. The aim of this phase of training is to ensure that the dog will drop instantly on command, verbal or signal, even when at distance from the handler.

Introduction of this exercise should commence only when the dog fully understands the sit exercise. Giving the command "down the handler should apply gentle pressure in a downwards direction with his right hand on the lead, at the same time placing his left hand on the dogs withers and gently press down and backwards. If the dog braces his front legs, they can be drawn gently forward. This exercise should be practiced from all stationary positions as well as when the dog is walking to heel.

Leaving the dog

Word of command: "Stay". This exercise, which is a development of the training given in the exercises, sit and down, where the dog has learnt to assume stationary positions, aims to teach the dog to remain in one of these positions when left by the handler. It is important that this training should be extended to conditions when the handler is out of sight of the dog.

Training should commence with the dog on lead in any one of three stationary positions. The command "stay" should be given and the handler should then move slowly away from the dog, stepping off with his/her right leg first, at the same time allowing the lead to pass loosely through his hand. Care must be taken to avoid any pull on the lead. The complete attention of the handler must be focused on the dog, in order to anticipate and check any tendency to move.

Once the dog understands what is required, the lead may be allowed to fall gently on the ground and the distance between the dog and handler gradually increased. No attempt should be made to hurry this exercise. It is far better to succeed in getting the dog to remain for a few seconds at a short distance than to attempt longer times and distances unsuccessfully. It is essential that in practicing leaving the dog, the handler must always return to the dog rather than call the dog to him.

Training on these lines involving the dog in the three stationary positions should be continued until a standard is reached where the dog will remain as directed by the handler for an appreciable time with the handler in sight. The exercise should be then extended to the handler moving out of sight of the dog. In the early stages, the handler must be in a position where he can see the dog but the dog cannot see him. If the dog breaks, the handler must be in a position where he can immediately place the dog back in the precise position he was.

Success in this exercise depends on the complete confidence of the dog that the handler will return. The initial periods out of sight of the dog should be short, and only increased gradually as the confidence of the dog is built up.

Flaunt Your Dogs Obedience With Dog-training!

Dog has been mans best friend since ages and both share a unique bonding. In fact Dogs were bred by early man to help them in hunting and guarding their tribe. For this reason, dogs naturally understand human language and commands just by growing up with them. But just consider this, if your own children can turn naughty and unruly in spite of best parenting and Schooling, then why the poor puppy wouldnt?

Tarpon Springs, Florida has a typical southern easy going lifestyle and they love their sunshine, their lovely beaches, their front garden houses and their Dogs. Dogs complete a typical American family picture and so like in other places across Florida; Tarpon Springs too has a thriving Pet Dog population. As long as you love your dog and you love it back, everything is fine. However, a Dog is after all a Dog. It can be at its best behavior with you and your family. But is your Dog well behaved enough that you can take it out in parks or walk it on the streets in your block and not be troubled by any sudden inappropriate behavior that can harm anybody or embarrass you?

Fact is, you can never be too sure of that if your dog has never been professionally trained at any Tarpon Springs Dog training yard. Just like we humans need our family and teachers to teach us good behavior, so do our dogs. You alone can not train your dog adequately enough as it requires a professional Tarpon Springs dog trainer to truly understand the training requirements and methodology for your pet. No two dogs may require identical training schedules.

Basic obedience program

Most Tarpon Springs Dog training schools basically carry two kinds of dog training programs.

1.Basic Obedience program

2.Advanced obedience program

Basic obedience program is like a Kindergarten for your dog. It starts when your pet puppy is around 8 to 11 weeks old depending upon the breed. Dogs too have a strong psychological sense and Dog Trainers in Tarpon Springs know it well. Dogs and puppies are trained in a very loving, stress-free environment otherwise a dog can pick up a dislike for humans in general and manifest this later in life in the form of aggressive behavior.

Basic obedience Commands

Sit To assume a sitting position when asked to.

Place To sit besides you facing ahead.

Heel Command to say lets go

Down command Making the dog crouch low on its belly in submission.

Down Stay Remain in a down position till commanded otherwise.

No jumping To not jump upon the owner or anybody else.

No biting To not bite things or humans even playfully.

Potty training

NO command To learn the NO command from owner and stop any action.

Name recognition Learn to recognize own name and respond to it.

Crate command To go to the cage, pet-pad or Dog-house when commanded.

Leash training To not tug on the leash aggressively.

Socialization Learn to behave well in crowd and stay calm amongst strangers.

These are some of the very basic obedience commands that a Tarpon Springs dog-trainer can teach your growing Dog. Some people feel that they can themselves teach their dog such simple commands. They can certainly do so but not always with desired results or the same perfection as a dog trainer may achieve. Wrong training methods can make your dog stubborn, aggressive or stressed out.

Self-training shortcomings

Confusing commands

No gesture training

Stress building

Wrong training techniques

Not trained to understand dog psychology

When an owner trains a Dog, usually it is not just one person training the dog but maybe one or more members join in too. This can confuse a young puppy or dog. If you teach a no command and also call it by other terms like Stop, dont or leave it , then again you will end up making your dog confused and less responsive or obedient. Some owners adopt the carrot and stick approach to train their dog which is also a wrong technique. A dog is not a cat. It should learn obedience without expecting any goodies in return. A well trained dog understands gestures too but when you self-train a dog, you do not normally teach them recognizing gestures. Lastly, a dog trainer is a trained professional and apart from other things also learns about psychology of Dogs which is very important to do right things during a training program. So, it is always better to train your dog at a Dog-training, Tarpon Springs school and let an expert Tarpon Springs Dog-trainer do the job.

Advanced Obedience program

The advance program is given to those dogs that have completed their basic obedience program at a Tarpon Springs Dog-training school. It involves controlling the dog with gestures, without leash and resisting the natural urges which are strongly built-in in a dog.

Without leash obedience ( heal, sit, down stay)

Socializing

Gesture understanding

No food from strangers

Obeying No command

In the advanced obedience program, the Tarpon Springs Dog-trainer particularly teaches the dog to behave well when without leash. The dog is not supposed to show its natural urges like greeting somebody, attacking or approaching a stranger, barking, accepting food offered by strangers, getting excited due to presence of other dogs etc. The dog is taught good socializing behavior so that it can be taken to parks, malls, picnics etc without causing any discomfort to others.

Training schedule and pricing

During the basic and the advanced training at Tarpon Springs dog-training centers, the owner of the dog is advised to remain with the trainer so that while the commands are being taught, the dog learns to take them from the owner too. The average period of basic training program and the advanced training program is two weeks each. Though different dog-training schools may charge differently, but largely the fees hovers around $500 to $700 for each training program. So what? A well mannered and obedient pet Dog is simply priceless!

Train A Horse To Trot Sideways

Horse Lessons: How To Train a Horse to Trot Sideways

Do you wish to train your horse to trot sideways?

Horses may be ridden and moved in various directions. The rhythm or cadence and beat of the gaits differ from each other. Among the gaits is the trot. Trot, by definition, is a gait faster than a walk. It is a two-beat gait where diagonally opposite legs strike the ground together. Undoubtedly faster; similar to a jog, the equine can cover a lot more ground. The next gait swifter than the trot is the canter.

Prior to attempting to train the horse to trot sideways, you have to first teach the animal to trot the basic way, forward. Although the gait is already natural to the equine, training is still required so he can get used to the movement with a rider.

Here's a few horse training tips:

1. Ensure that the horse already behaves when you are on the ground. It should be easily led and managed. If you are able to do it very easily, it is a crystal clear indicator that you are able to transition to riding the horse in the saddle and wont have too much of a hassle teaching them to move with your legs.

2. Horses move via pressure that you apply. Train them on the ground first. Once in a saddle train him to read the indicators with the leg and rein cues. Ensure to acknowledge and praise the horse for every correct execution of your instructions.

3. Clicker training and vocal cues can help your teaching methods. Apply them with your training whenever possible.

4. Praises and clicks are great motivators but every trainer should have more motivational tools like treats for rewards. Motivators are things that make your equine understand and attain success in conditioning faster and easier. The horse should realize that with every single favorable result he will be rewarded. And it will be eager to perform again and again.

There are actually two methods to motivate an pet. One is positive reinforcement and the other is negative. Treats, clicks, and praises or rewards are positive methods to reinforce actions. Though leg pressure and rein manipulation are considered negative reinforcement. Each are effective with equines.

5. You have to concentrate on the direction and the precise body part you are trying to move. Trotting sideways will of course entail the pets legs. Touch it frequently, and gently giving physical cues that it should go in a certain direction. Be mild in the beginning and you will start to figure out the horse's threshold for instruction.

Additionally, make it clear to the pet, as much as is possible, that you are trying to make it move with a certain gait in a particular direction.

6. Keep it simple. If the horse responds correctly even using just a simple cue, good for you both! Steer clear of complicating things and train yourself to be easily satisfied. Do not go precisely by the book or do things precisely how other folks have told you. Do not give further cues if the equine already nailed the movement. You will merely confuse the animal. Each and every animal is an individual and should be treated that way.

7. Technically, the cues that you should utilize when you desire the horse to trot sideways are:

Leg aids

Rein control

Spoken cues

Various Physical contact

All of these should be applied as long as it is practical. Constantly monitor the motion of the horse so you get everything right. When making use of horse training do not lose patience, the animal will comprehend in due time.

How to Train Your Dog - Using Food

Possessing a dog comes with a number of important responsibilities, among which is providing practicing the dog just because a well trained dog is simpler to live with and also to care for to result in less damage in your home. Training a dog should not be contacted like a chore that must be undertaken at particular times of the day instead it should be an all natural part of daily romantic relationship that is enjoyed by both dog owner great pet and a time for you to increase the bonding among each. >

Training a dog involves behavioral coaching, obedience training and home training but whichever training you might be giving to your pet, you may possibly choose to try to proper the thousands of wrong actions that you do not such as or you may select the most effective and simple route of enthusiastically taking the help of the positive reinforcement techniques -- a simple technique which involves rewarding your dog with regard to responding positively to the coaching.

Goodies. Do any research upon dog training methods and undoubtedly you will come across content articles for and against using meals in training. I frequently hear people say dogs should not do things because you possess food with you, they ought to do it for compliment alone.

The actual argument that comes up probably the most is - I avoid want to have to transport treats with me constantly.

Whenever used correctly - you don't need to.

We don't even use the term "treat" when discussing training a dog and reinforcement. In my experience that word implies some thing special or indulgent. Utilizing food in training is not really an luxury.

I avoid want to get too specialized but reinforcers can be main (related to biology) - meals, sex, water or even secondary (have been associated with primary reinforcers) - playthings, games, compliment, touch (the list is not really exclusive). The following is where many people obtain confused. A reward is actually tangible. It may be main or suplementary - meals, water, plaything, tug, get. It's considered the reinforcer only if it acts to increase or strengthen the behaviour. Because meals are an initial reinforcer, whenever you pair it with compliment, eventually the praise gets reinforcing as well and you also phase out the meals reward. Praise by yourself, (without which pairing), is often insufficient to change behaviour for many dogs (there are usually exceptions).

I personally use food similar to the way I use the chance to engage in pull or a game of run after. If it's something your dog wants, it may be used like a reward to improve (reinforce) the possibilities of a behaviour happening again. If the canine doesn't particularly love the praise, it won't work to boost the behaviour since the dog doesn't view it as rewarding.

Lackluster reaction can often be traced returning to lack of motivation -- the reward is not viewed as valuable enough to supply reinforcement (desire in order to perform).

I am still trying to puzzle out why are so many trainers and no trainers expect our dogs to perform something just because all of us ask them to. Exactly why is looking for a method to motivate our dogs seen as an negative? It ought to be the very first thing we think associated with.

First situation: my employer requests for a volunteer to operate over the weekend as well as says there is a reward at the end. We volunteer and on Monday We receive a coupon for any fast food eating place. That is not rewarding enough for me to offer again later on.

Whether utilizing food or toys or strolls or chase games, we have to think of whether it's something our own dog will find rewarding. You will have much larger success if you encourage rather than frighten.

Utilize each and every opportunity to train your pet, for instance in case he eliminates outdoors then compliment him and if possible praise him with a treat because is the only method he will know that they have done which is healthy and he will require to to do it again. If you discover him chewing on the shoe don't yell in him, just take the actual shoe and replace having a toy and he can get the message with time. Learn to have patience with your pet because even humans take some time out learn brand new things how much more our own dogs.

Training is basically a necessity of every immature and unaware creature. Your dog needs to learn and understand the meaning of your every command and requirement. For this, the first thing you need to do is to setup a proper chart for your dog's daily routine which includes the followings points.

Basic manners regarding all the daily activities should be properly explained to the dog. It depends on the nature of your dog that how fast he gets used to of working according to your prepared chart, which should include the fixed timings of feeding, sleeping, playing, bathing, outing etc. Playing and outing are the very first rights of your pet. A dog's nature needs freshness and excitement after every couple of hours. Besides this, your attitude also counts in this training, as dogs learn much better through love and care rather than being yelled and scolded by their master.

Maintenance of a crate is also very important thing to be considered in the training and grooming of your dog. The crate should be big enough and according to the size of your pet. This should let him move to any side, sit, sleep, etc. the crate should also possess a dog bed and a pillow. Further, playing and outing hours of your dog should be well granted to him. Yellow Labrador Training Tips

Yellow lab puppies are not only cute but make brilliant family pets. Their particular intelligence makes them wonderful to work with and straightforward to train if you're sure of what you are doing. You should however, as with any puppy, you need to start training during infancy, to make sure that, one day, your puppy will be your best friend. Part one of yellow labrador puppy instruction entails housebreaking.

Bathroom training is vital. The best way to be successful quickly, it's best to set a consistent routine for taking your puppy outdoors. It's essential to use a simple command to let him know when the time is right to relieve himself. Consistently bringing your puppy outdoors every two hours, with just one, quick instruction, for example "go potty", is the easiest way to start. Extending the time intervals will eventually make life easier, while still giving your puppy the message that relieving himself must be performed outdoors. Sooner or later they'll start to understand precisely what you expect of them. This probably will involve as much education for the dog owner as for the puppy

The next yellow lab training tip you should focus on is how to walk your pup on a leash. This really is something you have to get right. Many labradors are immensley powerful as demonstrated once when on a camping holiday with friends. I was amazed with the strength of my friend's yellow labrador retriever. We tied him to a boat trailer whilst we pitched the tent (to stop him wandering off and causing trouble). The trailer had a boat on it that was packed to the gunnels with sailing and camping gear. Lord knows just how much it weighed. At that time, another hound wandered onto the site and came up growling at our lab. He rapidly tried to chase this dog off even though he was still attached to the trailer. He managed to drag it a number of yards before it ground to a halt. It was astounding! For this reason it is so important to have them walk under control on the leash.

Although a yellow lab is a really powerful and independent dog, it is also one who would like to please. This means it is important to teach them to walk alongside you, and not in front or behind. Continually turn your puppy in the opposite direction when he begins to pull at the leash, returning to your original direction only when he has settled down. That way, your puppy regards you as the leader, which is essential in other aspects of behavior training.

All puppies bite as they teethe. Another problem to check is biting as soon as they teethe. Bear in mind that this is a natural thing for dogs. What you must do here is use that instinctive behaviour in a positive way. In other words, let them bite the appropriate things. A common theme here (and in fact all dog training) is to gently correct unacceptable behavior. Don't shout at them or smack them. All this will do is frighten then and fear is no good as a training aid (despite what some idiots think). Personally, I have found the best way is for the pack leader to be dominant (make sure you are the one in control) but also turn everything into a game. I have been told by some self proclaimed experts that this is called "play training". I know many people who have done this through the years but were quite unaware that it was "technique".

Along the way make sure you teach them what is an acceptable thing to bite, and that doesn't include people, no matter if done in play. To reinforce this you must give them many rubber toys or rope to chew on until their teeth grow fully. If and when they do bite you, gently correct them and continue use a toy as a substitute.

Your yellow lab puppy is actually a bundle of energy, just needing direction. It's no surprise this breed is often utilized in police work, search and rescue and guide dog service.

Successful yellow lab puppy training must have a good balance of physical activity, and strong, consistent instruction. You should always work with your puppy employing positive, and consistent mindset, never using punishment to correct undesirable behavior. Before long, you will end up with a loyal loving dog.

Find Out How To Stop Your Pet Dog From Barking And Irritating Your Entire Neighborhood

Does your pet dog drive you and your neighbors insane with his barking? Have you pursued all sorts of things to get him to quit yet absolutely nothing is helping?

Believe me, I have been there too so I fully appreciate your annoyance with this particular behavior. As a result of my own pup's continual barking, I decided to explore the reason why most dogs bark and try to get fast and highly effective techniques to put a stop to this aggravating behavior before I was charged with disturbing the peace!!

As chance would have it, my trusted associate, Daniel Stevens, delivered to me a copy of his popular dog training e-book, Secrets to Dog Training. The

timing couldn't have been better! I'm not a dog trainer but I thought I knew a lot about canines before however his in-depth e-book made me realize just how much more I still needed to learn.

I'm delighted to tell you that my own pet dog is now a very well-behaved pooch because of the solutions I've come to understand from Daniel's e-book...which by the way has been purchased by over 217,000 dog owners world-wide. Not too shabby, I would say!

And so today we'll be looking at the reasons why pet dogs bark and just what you can do to stop this behavior in your own pet.

Quite a few pet owners seem to want their pets to quit barking, period: a good dog is a quiet dog, and the only time that barking is permitted is when there is a man sporting a black balaclava and stripy prison attire, clutching a backpack marked 'Swag', clambering in via your bedroom window.

Puppies don't see barking in quite the same light. Your puppy has got a voice, exactly like you do, and she uses it just how you do too: to convey something to the people she loves. I don't feel that barking is always an undesirable thing - actually, I feel it's great that my puppy would like to "speak" to me, enough so that I can ignore the loudness of her voice (which, in enclosed rooms, is absolutely overpowering) in favor of her wish to communicate with me.

It's the thought that counts (though I am much more inclined to feel this way once my ears are sheltered safely behind industrial-quality ear-plugs). Sadly, the language barrier between pet dogs and humans is pretty well impermeable, which means it really is up to us to use the context, the body language of our dogs, along with the circumstances to understand the reason why our pet is driving us nuts barking.

So why is it that dogs bark? It is not easy to say (it's just like trying to answer the question, "So why do human beings talk?" in so many words). Let's start out by stating that pet dogs bark for a lot of different reasons. A good deal of it is determined by the breed: some dogs were bred to start barking just when a risk is apparent (this holds true of guarding breeds in particular, such as Rottweilers, Dobermans, and German Shepherds).

Some were bred to use their voices as an effective tool of sorts, for helping their owners in search of a common goal (sporting dog breeds like Beagles and Bloodhounds, trained to 'bay' after they scent the quarry), plus some puppies just like to hear themselves talk (take almost any of the toy dog breeds as a good example of an exceptionally chatty pooch!). Having said that, all breed details cast aside, there are a few situations where almost any canine will bark:

* She is bored to tears

* She's lonesome

* She's hungry, or is aware it is time for a meal

* Something is not right / a person is near to the house

* She's inviting you to play

* She meets another animal

* She requires the toilet

If your pet is barking for any of these reasons, it's not very practical that you should try and stop her: after all, she's a dog, and it is the nature of all dogs to bark at certain times and in certain conditions.

Presumably you understood this when you adopted your companion (plus, if complete silence had been on top of your set of priorities, you would have obtained a pet rock, correct?). Of course, there are occasions when barking is not just unwarranted, it is totally undesirable. Many dogs are able to use their voices as a good means of manipulation.

Thats a lot of exercise! In order for us to be able to enjoy exercising our dogs as much as they need, its important for them to behave well both on the lead. Unfortunately, there are many dogs out there who are afraid of the leash itself resulting in neurotic, fearful, submissive behavior whenever the lead comes out. In this newsletter, well take a look at the most effective way to deal with fear of the leash.

Fear of the Leash

The majority of the time, the sight of the leash is enough to bring on a fit of joy the dog knows that leash = walk, and reacts accordingly.

For some dogs, though, the leash connotes fear and submissiveness more than anything else. Perhaps the leash was used in a negative way with a previous owner as a tool for dragging the dog around. Perhaps it was used to confine the dog for long hours at a time. In some extreme cases, dogs have even been whipped with the leash as punishment. Or perhaps your dog is just very highly strung, and is prone to developing phobias seemingly arbitrarily. Although fear of the leash can have a severely negative impact on your walks with your dog, the good news is that its easy to cure.

You just need some patience and some basic equipment.

What youll need

A leash, made of webbing or leather. Approximately 5 feet (1.25 meters) is a good length, as it enables control without risk of the dog getting tangled in the leash when out walking. Chain-link leashes arent recommended, as theyre hard on the hands and also can flick the dog in the face, which isnt something youd want to inflict on any dog, let alone one thats suffering from fear of the leash! - A good-quality collar, again made of leather or nylon webbing. If youre using one with a snap-lock, make sure its safety-approved and wont come undone under pressure. Slip-chain collars (also known as choke-chains or check-chains) should never be used on an unattended dog, as theyre a training tool, not a real collar. - A little bit of time, and a little bit of patience.

What to Do

* Your aim here is to accustom your dog to the lead a little bit at a time, keeping him well within his comfort zone at each step of the way. Because hes already got a fear of the leash, some discomfort in its presence is to be expected, but watch out for signs of extreme fear:

* hyperventilating,

* drooling,

* submissive urination,

* rolling eyes (often showing the whites).

So step one: remember to take baby steps at all times!

* If hes really afraid of the leash, youll need to accustom him to it very slowly indeed.

* Practice leaving it out in full view, preferably in fun places: next to his food bowl, in preferred play areas, near his bed.

* Once hes stopped reacting to the sight of it, introduce the leash to him in a more active manner. You can do this by wrapping it around your hand as you pet and groom him.

* Hold the leash in your hand as you prepare his food; sit by him and stroke him, with the leash wrapped around your hand, as he eats. Keep this up until hes stopped showing any signs of discomfort it may take some time, but remember that youre aiming to accustom him comfortably to the leash. Any rushing is counterproductive.

* When hes not showing any signs of nervousness with this level of progress, you can start attaching the leash to his collar.

* Put him in a sit-stay, using a firm, calm voice, and clip the leash on. Dont make a big deal out of it: your dog will take his emotional and psychological cues from your behavior. If you act as though its not a big deal, hell follow your lead.

* Once the leash is on, give him some time to get used to the sensation of something hanging off his neck. He may get a little panicky at this stage, and start pawing at his neck and trying to rub the leash off along the ground. If hes showing signs of nervousness, distract him with a game: a short game of tug-o-war (providing he knows to drop the toy when youve had enough) is a good idea; if he can run without getting tangled in the leash, play a short game of fetch; or, if the two of you are outside in a safely enclosed area, you can go for a short walk.

* Dont attempt to touch the leash at this stage, just let him walk around freely. - Take the leash off after five minutes or so, and praise him lavishly for being such a good boy.

* Give him a couple of small, tasty treats, and lots of petting. - Repeat these last three steps several more times before progressing to the next level: you want to give him plenty of opportunities to get used to the sensation of the leash itself before you start using it to control his walking.

* The more positive associations he forms with the leash (which he will do through the games, walks, and treats while wearing it), the better for his progress.

Next, its time for a short obedience-training session while hes wearing the leash. Five minutes is plenty: practice a sit-stay and the recall command (come) while hes wearing the leash. This will reinforce your authority and leadership, and remind him that hes still expected to obey you while wearing the leash. - When hes readily obeying your commands with the leash on, you can take him for a short walk while hes wearing it. If hes jumpy, do not reinforce his nervousness by rewarding him with attention. Simply ignore him and carry on walking. Remember, he takes his cues from you, so keep calm and wait for it to pass.

If, at any point, you feel that hes simply too nervous to proceed (for example, if hes still panicking after three or four minutes of walking on the leash), go back to the level at which he was last 100% comfortable.

Wait a few days at this stage before attempting to proceed. Things to Remember

* Remember to be patient! Dont attempt to rush your dogs progress: using force is counterproductive to your end goal.

* Youre teaching him to relax and be calm around the leash

* if you get stressed or frustrated with his lack of progress, hell be able to tell, and his anxiety levels will increase, not decrease.

* Remember not to indulge his nervousness or coddle him if he plays up or gets nervous. If you react to his crying and trembling with petting and cooing, you are telling him that its OK to feel like that.

* If hes nervous, either ignore it and carry on, or distract him with a game or short walk.

* If hes still panic-stricken after three or four minutes, revert to the previous step and give it more time.

This should go without saying, but never correct or punish him for skittishness or nervous behavior again, its counterproductive in the extreme.
